With the skeleton of the massive building in the background, Amazon officials and state and local politicians gathered at the construction site Monday to talk about the project. Officials say workers will make at least $15 per hour as they pack and ship consumer products alongside Amazon's robots. The center will be Amazon's third in Memphis. Gov. Bill Lee said he was grateful to Amazon for building the center in Memphis.

This third underemployment is actually pretty interesting. The prevailing sentiment about discouraged workers seems to be that young people have highe expectations, thus when the results do not meet their expectations, they get discouraged. Here is my take from this: I know quite a number of people from my social circle who have expressed difficulty in finding jobs that suit the courses they studied. A few wanted to start their own businesses because of job discontent. One person wanted this because of being unable to find a job, like the guy in the TNP article. So yea, if you want to find people who didn't fall into the type 3 of underemployment, you probably can find a lot of them in type 1 or 2 of underemployment. The gig economy is a very good example, used to be Grab/Uber private car hailing service, now it's increasingly looking like food delivery services. Once the food delivery services sector cools down.... There might be massive unemployment/underemployment. I think ultimately we need to ask ourselves, is the focus on generating jobs far outpacing the attention needed for good quality and suitable jobs to be created in line with the high levels of education in Singapore?
